National Novel Writers Month – Take Two

In the spirit of this blog, I’m writing about creativity.  This space is one for me to try out a few things, and not be so worried about it being “right”.

November is National Novel Writers Month, or NaNoWriMo to those in the know.  I tried it last year, with the explicit goal of writing down more of my career development knowledge to put into a form that might at some point in the future get published in some sort of book form.  I worked really hard, but the stress of the Fall semester got to me and I crashed an burned at 30,000 words (the goal is to write 50,000 words in one month.)  I understand that is very common for most people to take part in NaNoWriMo, so I really have no shame about it.  I still have all the rough drafts that I wrote, so I can still use them in the future.

This year, I decided that instead of writing that book, what I need to do is just get myself back into the practice of creating something.  A remnant of past activities has been the Meditate Mass 351 Challenge, where I set the goal for visiting every town and city (yes, there are 351 of them!) in Massachusetts, and write a blog post about each of them.  I’ve now visited 230 of the 351, yet I’ve only written about 54 of them.  My goal for this month is to make more headway on that project, and hopefully by extension create some other blogs and just generally get the creative juices flowing.

Everything I’ve seen about creativity has said that you just have to do it, so this is yet another way I am just trying to get something out there, even if it’s not the best writing, drawing, musical composition or baking that I could possibly do.

Wish me luck!
