FAWM, or February Album Writing Month, is a songwriting challenge taken on by approximately 2,500 people from around the globe every February, with the goal of writing 14 songs in 28 days. Some people only write 1 song. Others write far more. Could be just lyrics, could be just instrumentals, could be a demo recorded into an iPhone or a fully produced song. Whatever it is, the goal is to be as musically creative as you can in the month of February, regardless of how polished. You can always let your editor out of the basement in March to fix something up.

One of the great traditions of FAWM is to have a FAWM Over Party to gather people in person to share the music they have written and see the faces behind the electronic accounts. This year, I’m organizing the New England FAWM Over Party.

RSVP for the event so we know who will be there and what to expect.

When: Sunday, March 30, 2025, 1:00-5:00 pm

Where: Odd Fellows Hall, 16 Maple St, Belmont, MA 02478. This is conveniently located 1/2 block from the Route 73 bus on Trapelo Road, 0.3 miles/8 minute walk from the Waverly MBTA Commuter Rail Station, and has free on-street parking.

What: General Schedule:

1-2 pm – Social Time.  Bring snacks to share.  We will also be playing your recorded FAWM songs during this time
2-3 pm – Open Mic.  Sign up for this
3-3:45 pm – Break/Social Time.  FAWM music also playing
3:45-5 pm – Open mic and then clean up.

What you can do:

• RSVP! Let us know if you’re coming, can you help with organizing, can you bring food, do you want to play at the open mic, etc.
• Upload Your Songs: We’ll be playing tracks of your FAWM songs during the social time, so if you want us to play something you’ve recorded, upload it to this Google Folder and we’ll have it on the play list (remember to have your FAWM name and Track title in the filename!)

There will be a basket out for people to donate as they will. Everyone is welcome to attend regardless of donation. It’s not an entrance fee. I’m going to be fronting the cost of the hall rental and anything that’s over the hall cost I will donate toward the “FAWM D. Rockingfeller Foundation” to pay for Rock Hands for people who can’t afford it next year. Anything you can give will be helpful. Thanks!

Also, I’ll be hosting a Virtual FAWM Over Party on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, 7:30-9:00 pm in the BeaconBeats Kumospace Lounge at https://www.kumospace.com/beacon. Bring your own beverages and join other New England FAWMers for some social time.
