Mom’s End: 2nd Update

spoke with the Critical Care Nurse this morning, and she said that nothing much has changed, and my mother is unresponsive. My father’s hope with my mother opening her eyes was relayed to me that that’s an involuntary action, and that they have not observed any movements/reactions that would indicate that there is any brain activity happening. She is hooked up to a ventilator, and is continuing with the drugs to keep her blood pressure up, but they are trying to wean her off that. My father has said that they will be taking her off the ventilator today, and spoke about it like it was an automatic thing, but the nurse said that that decision is one we have to make, as there is a high likelihood that she will not be able to breathe with it off.

The neurological evaluation will be this morning, and we will have more definite details, but all signs are looking like there is no function there and that her body is only functioning through artificial means.

I’m trying to learn as much as I can so that I can be supportive to my father, brother, and sister. I’m planning on going to the hospital tonight to see her, and probably the rest of the family. I have the feeling that we will be making some major decisions soon.

Thank you all for your love and support.
